There is no doubt that the acceptance of HDTV services today is global and on all delivery system technologies, satellite, cable, IP or terrestrial. The number of households watching HD programming has reached the “critical mass” as illustrated in the US with 82% of households equipped with broadband.
The objective of this document is to provide an explanation of Ultra-HD format and some key elements to illustrate how Ultra-HD service can be transmitted over a DVB-T2 network. After a brief introduction of the basic principles of the Ultra-HD format and the projected market trends, the service requirement for Ultra-HD to the home will be identified. Finally, an illustration of a typical DVB-T2 network architecture with Ultra-HD TV services is provided and explained.
