Aframe

Our customers sometimes ask us why we’re called Aframe, some simply spell it wrong.

In engineering terms, an A-frame is a simple structure with a light and efficient design, able to bear loads in a stable, economic manner. The simplest form of an A-frame structure is two similarly sized beams, arranged at a 45-degree angle, attached at the top. Common uses for the A-frame structure are ladders, houses, tents and even the support for the London Eye.

We made Aframe to be similarly efficient and robust.

In film terms, a ‘frame’ describes the still images that make up the complete moving picture. Single images were recorded on a strip of photographic film that looked like a framed picture when viewed individually. When the moving picture is displayed, each frame is flashed on a screen for a short time before being replaced by the next.

The eye blends the frames together, producing the illusion of a moving image. The rate at which these frames are displayed per second is a common unit of measurement, called frame rate, with 25 fps being the most common standard in use.

So that’s Aframe. Capital A, lower case f and definitely no hyphen.

SiliconCore

SiliconCore Technology is an innovator and manufacturer of cutting edge LED Displays, and laser diode controls.

The company was founded in 1997 in Milpitas, California, USA, based on the talents of the founder Eric Li and his team of engineers in designing integrated circuits used to control laser diodes. The company has grown from its success in creating a chip designed to run the lasers in DVD-RW drives used in personal computers, with shipments of over 100 million units per year.

Discoveries made during those early years led the company to file for several patents relating to driving LEDs, including innovations in Common Cathode Technology. This was initially used in our family of driver chips, but when applied to LED Displays it means we can achieve pixel densities that have never been seen before.

The flagship model, the Magnolia 1.5mm has over 444,000 pixels, or over 1,300,000 LED chips in just one square meter of display area.

The screens are also extremely power efficient, requiring no air conditioning or even fans to cool them and generating no noise, making the them perfect for corporate and indoor applications like never before.

SiliconCore Technology now has offices in 3 continents to service our growing team of system integrators. These partners can deliver total solutions to financial institutions, military control rooms, retail stores as well as the broadcast and transportation industries.

DPA Microphones

Unparalleled accuracy
Close your eyes and listen. From the subtlest nuances of a solo violin or vocalist to the thunderous intensity of a full brass section or drum kit, it’s all there, spectacularly pure and uncolored. The sound is so crisp and detailed that you begin to create a mental picture of what the recording environment looked like. The microphones responsible? DPA, of course.

From B&K to DPA
Although DPA has technically only been in existence since 1992, our company draws on more than five decades of world-class microphone design experience going back to the first range of measurement microphones created by our progenitor, Brüel & Kjær, in the 1950s.

Rapid growth and rabid fans
Over the years, we have expanded from a tiny initial staff of only two people to well over 100 and are now represented by professional audio distributors and dealers in more than 40 countries around the world. In the past five years alone, we have experienced an average annual growth of 25 percent, and, in 2007, were presented with the prestigious King Frederik IX’s award for outstanding contribution to Danish export.

What’s our secret?
The reason for our success is simple: DPA’s ultimate goal is to provide you – whether you’re in live sound, recording, theater or broadcast – with the absolute finest possible microphone solutions for your tasks. We take no shortcuts in our design processes nor make any compromises in our manufacturing, which is all done in Denmark. As a result, our products are globally praised for their exceptional clarity and transparency, superb specifications, supreme reliability and, above all, pure, uncolored and undistorted sound.

Regardless of whether you are a longtime DPA user or potential new customer, we thank you for your interest in our products and look forward to delighting you beyond your expectations.

Soundcraft

Founded in 1973, Soundcraft first made its mark with the launch of the Series 1, the first mixing console in a flight case. Back in the early 70’s, the music touring business was just beginning – and the transportable mixing desk quickly became popular among the bands and the new PA companies that were springing up to rent out sound equipment.

From what was then a small company in central London, Soundcraft expanded and started to diversify. The company designed a mixer for recording – the Series 2 – and began to build a reputation for great-sounding desks, which is often referred to as the favoured ‘British Sound’.

Design and innovation has always been one of Soundcraft’s major strengths. Over the years it has introduced a number of industry-favoured consoles such as the Series 4, 2400, TS24, 8000, 200B, 6000, Delta, SAC200 and the Spirit Folio range, and more recently the Series FIVE, Broadway, GB Series, MH series, VI Series and the Si Series.

Today Soundcraft has a network of over 100 distributors selling and supporting its products world-wide. Part of the Harman Pro Group, Soundcraft is still very much the dedicated professional mixing console designer and manufacturer it was back in 1973. It now boasts a range of mixers which are designed for use in live sound, recording, post-production, TV and radio production and disco applications.

Harman is an international company which comprises a group of dedicated manufacturers of audio equipment spanning professional audio, in-car systems, multimedia and hi-fi consumer products.

Other publications target the top executives of leading corporations worldwide. Whether your firm buys or sells technology or services, you need the insight that Vital Analysis provides.

Our reach, like our blog readership, is truly global. We’ve consulted with top technology executives in Australia, Brazil, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States. We’ve been briefed by technology providers from virtually every corner of the planet.

Level 3 Communications

From its beginning, Level 3 Communications was founded on the principles of the Silicon Economicssm cycle: create a global telecommunications network with the scale to reduce unit costs, stimulate demand with these lower costs, support that demand by scaling even more.

Level 3 created a network that serves as a foundation for the communications services of the 21st century by providing, among other things, information transmission over a fiber optic network and media delivery over a content delivery network.

And we’ve grown to support the end-to-end communications services that businesses and carriers rely on.

Level 3 was originally founded in 1985 as Kiewit Diversified Group Inc. (KDG), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Peter Kiewit Sons’, Inc. (PKS).

Peter Kiewit Sons’, Inc. is a 114-year-old construction, mining, information services and Communications Company headquartered in Omaha, Neb. KDG was originally created to hold PKS’ non-construction business assets.

In early 1998, KDG announced it was changing its name to Level 3 Communications, Inc., after substantially increasing the emphasis it placed on and the resources devoted to its communications and information services business.

On April 1, 1998, Level 3 common stock started trading on the NASDAQ Stock Market under the symbol LVLT.

During 1998, Level 3 raised $14 billion and was called the “best funded start-up in history.”

The company constructed 19,600 route miles, and built the world’s first continuously upgradeable network fully optimized for internet protocol (IP).

Over the next few years, explosive demand for bandwidth fuelled growth in sales.

By the end of 2000, Level 3 provided service to 2,700 customers.

Root 6 Technology

ROOT6 Technology was established by industry professionals in 1997 at the heart of London’s post production and new media communities in Soho.

Over the years, the company has employed its skills in application development, relational database design and IP network engineering on a number of collaborative projects to deliver innovative products and services to the postproduction and broadcast sectors.

These include the development of a set top box for BEAM.TV, a leading archiving and distribution company with more than half a million assets in its online library.

The system was widely adopted by the advertising industry for screening file-based material at major international festivals.

Subsequently the company worked with ChilliBean, creating a tapeless submissions and judging system for the D&D Global Awards.

The close association with the media industry lead to the development of ContentAgent, the automated file-based management system, and the feature set incorporates considerable feedback from media professionals working in file-based facilities on a daily basis.

In such mission critical environments, high quality technical support is essential and ContentAgent’s success has in no small part been due to this provision.

Since 1999 Fortium has successfully developed innovative technologies that help leading international businesses have greater control over the way in which their digital content is distributed.

There are many ways in which digital content can be pirated. Pre-release sources of piracy for TV, movies and music include production and post-production, pre-release distribution, and pre-release screenings.

For example it has been estimated that approximately 77% of all movies available on a P2P network are the result of insider piracy and that 95% of all available movies first appeared on the P2P network before the theatrical release date.

MicroTech-Gefell GmbH

You find everything from the development and the design to the production and sale under the same roof in our company.

Each microphone is manufactured exclusively in manual work by our experts. This offers advantages compared with any serial production.

Our range of products contains both measuring and studio microphones that we offer our customers with traditional large and small membranes and as a speciality with nickel membranes as well.

For the production of microphone capsules both cast and rolled membranes are used. As the company founded by Georg Neumann we are the only one that produces the legendary original M7 capsules worldwide.

Offering microphones of highest quality we do not only apply to the technical data but in addition to the applicability of the microphones for the customers in practice.

In order to guarantee this we also offer extensive accessories as well as customer- or application-specific special constructions and give competent technical support by our engineers.

While doing so we take into consideration – besides the microphone – the whole application environment, that is the acoustic, mechanical and other relevant parameters.

Service means for us more than only repairing. It has to guarantee the customer a high degree of investment security. Free of charge we offer information and expert consultation .

We repair/restore each microphone of our company. The same applies to older microphone types, too by using original parts.

By request we adapt your microphones to 48V phantom power and XLR plug.

Georg Neumann & Co., Elektrotechnisches Laboratorium Gefell i.V., RFT Mikrofontechnik Gefell and last but not least Microtech Gefell GmbH – these varied names for the same company testify to the political revolution, which our company had to survive during its more than 80-years of history.

However, our claim to deliver the best possible microphones has not changed, completely in the tradition of our founder Georg Neumann.

National Centre for Accessible Media

The National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) was founded in 1993 with a major grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

NCAM acts as the research and development arm of Boston public broadcaster WGBH’s Media Access Group and is involved in technology, policy and program development to assure that the nation’s media and technologies are fully accessible to people with disabilities.

A major, five-year gift in 2006 from the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation complements NCAM’s federal, corporate and foundation support and enables the Center to anticipate media access challenges and to begin addressing them quickly. I

n recognition of the family’s generosity, NCAM was renamed the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family National Center for Accessible Media at WGBH.

NCAM is an extension of public broadcasting’s ground-breaking work in media access that began in 1972 with the establishment of The Caption Center at WGBH and its development of captioning for television viewers who are deaf and hard-of-hearing.

In 1990, WGBH’s access mission resulted in the development of video description for television audiences who are blind and visually impaired. NCAM and its sister organizations,

The Caption Center and Descriptive Video Service® (DVS®), make up the Media Access Group at WGBH.  NCAM’s on-going activities include:

• development of technologies that create access to public mass media

• development of public media policies

• research into how existing access technologies may benefit other populations

• outreach to various communities and industries to educate people about media access issues

• support of the public broadcasting community in extending access to new and emerging programming and information.

NCAM’s mission is to ensure that the 40 million Americans with little or no access to media’s sights and sounds will not be left out of the Information Age.

UStream TV

The vision started several years before Ustream was officially born in 2007, when two of the company’s founders, John Ham and Brad Hunstable, were attending the United States Military Academy at West Point.

At the time, Brad, Ustream’s current CEO, was unable to watch his brother’s rock band perform live onstage.

Others in the military experienced similar challenges – they couldn’t watch their daughter graduate from college or they missed the big game with their friends.

The specifics always differed, but the common thread was a single need: the ability to share real-time experiences with a large circle of family and friends, connecting people around the world with the most important events in their lives.

In comes Ustream. John and Brad joined forces with Gyula Feher, and together the three founders set out to make their vision a reality.

BlueTooth SIG

A lot’s happened to our world in 15 years; some tragic, some exciting and some changing the face of history.

In the world of technology, we’ve seen Google, Hotmail, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter introduced; MP3 players, iTunes, iPod, iPhone and iPad brought to the market; the bubble blew up and burst, blew up and burst again; online banking, digital cameras, interactive video games, digital movies, laptops, big screen TVs, giant screen TVs, TVs with Internet; and Bluetooth® wireless technology was along for the ride.

Our worlds changed significantly as technology allowed objects to get smaller and become mobile. Since the official adoption of the Bluetooth name and formation of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group in 1998, Bluetooth technology came a long way.

2012 marked an incredible year for the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, Bluetooth wireless technology and Bluetooth SIG members.

The Bluetooth SIG saw tremendous momentum of the Bluetooth Smart and Bluetooth Smart Ready brands, an incredible amount of new and interesting devices supporting Bluetooth Smart and changes within the SIG to provide a better experience for members.

Bluetooth enabled devices were everywhere in 2012—more than 2 billion Bluetooth devices shipped with more than 77 million of those being Bluetooth Smart. Bluetooth Smart opened up many new verticals including sports and fitness, health and wellness, smart home and the beginning of machine-to-machine. In 2013 and beyond, the SIG will continue to see everyday items connect to the Internet and a broader world of the Internet of Things.
